The NSI Mission
The mission of the National Security Initiative is to protect America from threats to our citizens, assets and economy through effective technology commercialization and market adoption. Those involved in the initiative strongly believe that the best ideas and implementations are generated in the private sector. The NSI seeks to bring the elements of the market necessary for succesful commercialization together in one place to asure that our nation and all of its assets are protected by the most cutting edge, effective technologies possible.
The NSI Vision
The vision of the National Security Initiative is to develop the nation's security portal for the support and nurture of emerging technologies to safeguard our critical infrastructure. The NSI seeks to expand the Challenge to focus on emerging technologies that will support and secure each critical infratructure sector identified by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
In 2008, the Challenge focused broadly on technologies that would increase America's security. The winner, Telecontinuity, Inc. provides critical government agencies and businesses with backup, survivable voice communications during any disaster, emergency, telecom outage or evacuation. This technology firm and its services are universal -- it is transferable and useful to assist utilities, transportation systems, government facilities, commercial facilities, among many other of our nation's critical infrastructures.
The 2009 Challenge will focus on such technologies: those that strengthen and shore up our ability to prevent, prepare, respond and remain resilient to another attack.
